Spring Cleaning

It’s that time of year again to not only spring clean out those closets of unwanted clothes, the yard and garden of debris, but also to cleanse our bodies. Now more than ever, our bodies are exposed to a great many pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, heavy metals, chemicals and pollutants from the exhaust from cars to the peel of a conventionally produced apple.

Each minute, nearly 2 quarts of blood pass through the liver for cleaning. When functioning properly, it clears 99% of all the toxins and impurities before blood re-enters circulation. Every day, a healthy liver produces about a quart of bile to carry those toxins and cholesterol to the intestine where they are absorbed by fiber and eliminated through the bowel.

There are things we can do to help our liver do its job like drinking the juice of half a lemon in hot water first thing in the morning. While acidic in taste, it actually alkalizes the body and the sourness of lemons triggers nerve and hormone activation to the liver and digestive system. It is very helpful for sluggish bowels.

Drinking sufficient fluids, improves the flow of nutrients to, and waste products from, the liver. In the morning, I drink 24 oz. of water before I even get out of bed. There is something about drinking it while your feet are still up that helps flush the colon.

One of my favourite Whole Body Cleanses is the 30-day CleanseSmart for its gentleness and that it won’t interrupt your daily routine.

The interaction of emotions with the physical body is an essential aspect of traditional Chinese medicine. For example, anger is associated with the liver and can leading to a red face and red eyes, headaches, and dizziness. Anger can also produce lack of appetite, indigestion, and diarrhea (often experienced by those people who argue at the dinner table or eat while driving). Suppressed anger or frustration often causes the liver to become stagnant; this might result in depression or menstrual disorders.

So I encourage you to spring clean in every area of your life and you will feel lighter, energized and rejuvenated.

'Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.'

1 Thessalonians 5:23
